Late Breakfast presents an evening of unique performances and special ensembles, featuring Zhao leading a musical I Ching reading, an all-star quartet led by Angel Lin with Lucy Liyou (piano), Marc Perez (trombone), and Andrew Weathers (sax), and the Underwater Garden Ensemble.

Zhao is Kenny Zhao, a composer, artist, and digital tinkerer who explores the relationship between compost and creative practice. Tonight will feature a musical I Ching performance, together with percussionist Angel Lin and movement artist and mime Young Tseng (YT).

Angel Lin is a Los Angeles area percussionist, instrument maker, and sound sculpture artist who synthesizes their experiences with jazz, classical, improvised music, and Indonesian gamelan to create unique sonic landscapes. Utilizing hand made instruments and sculptural pieces created from tree branches, driftwood, and other natural materials amongst a host of gongs, drums, and various other percussion, their work also integrates elements of eastern spirituality and ritual magic as part of the performance and creative process. Some past performances include ones with Tatsuya Nakatani’s Gong Orchestra, Charles Sharp, Andrew Weathers, and Bill Alves’ American Gamelan among others.

Underwater Garden Ensemble is: a group of friends making music in a fish tank. Comprised of Brian Griffith, Chuck Soo-Hoo, Devin Blair, Ian MacPhee, Julian Stein, Pauline Lay, and Shuwen Zhao, featuring members of Squash & Biscuit, bu.re_, Ki Oni, and Electric Sound Bath.
