Los Angeles-based singer songwriter Kelsey Shell makes music about night sweats, daydreams, love gone wrong and sometimes right. She often writes on the bus or in the bathtub, backing slinky lyrics with swirling harmonies propelled by rhythmic fingerpicking. Kelsey’s latest album Sleepwalker is an evolution of her trademark Hi Fi Crying Music™, in which lush production and pop hooks belie a deeply felt melancholy. Advanced reviews for Sleepwalker say “the lyrics are a bit dark and sad for my taste” (Playlist Picasso) and "it's a little too moody for me" (Kev Rowe). Kelsey’s debut album Sweet Tooth was released in 2020.
Singer-songwriter Patrick Ferris founded and fronted the acclaimed Los Angeles rock band The Americans, appearing on "The Late Show" and releasing two indie/Americana-charting albums—Stand True (2022), and I'll Be Yours (2017). His songs are modern, original, and personal, but are noticeably influenced by early field recordings from the last century. Anthony Wall (BBC 6) calls them "Absolutely brilliant." Greil Marcus (Pitchfork) writes, "From the first rolling guitar notes, carrying sadness and defiance like dust, this sweeps me up: I want to know everything about where that feeling came from, and where it's going." He appears in Jack White's television series "American Epic," which he associate produced, performing with Taj Mahal and Ashley Monroe.
