Kaela summons us into her personal ambient cosmos with her debut album Supraliminal, a nostalgic and atmospheric ambient odyssey with a dusting of pop. “I’ve always felt that an album or song can be a microcosm. This record feels holographic, like a world that exists parallel and invisible to our visible world.”

Kaela had an early start to a music career when she joined M83 in 2016 and has found continued success as an artist in her own right, collaborating and touring with King Princess, Troye Sivan, and Sofi Tukker, whose remix of her song “Spiral” has gained over 3 million streams.

Supraliminal takes us to a spectacular new world in a sonic sandbox of glitter. Shimmering synthesizers, multi-dimensional instruments and transcendental vocals animate a colorful, futuristic soundscape where surrealism meets subconscious messaging, inner demons meet the higher self, and childlike wonder communes with deep grief. She encourages us on our own mysterious paths, to swim through the waves of being, and begin the descent into our minds.

Jeremiah Chiu is a Los Angeles-via-Chicago visual artist, synthesist, and graphic designer working with Chicago’s venerable International Anthem Recording Co. His prolific output across the fields of art, music, and graphic design has garnered recent recognition by Roland and Elektron, both of which profiled his expertise as a synthesist; the L.A. Times, who mentioned Chiu and his group, SML, as key figures within L.A.’s burgeoning jazz scene; and LAX, who is currently exhibiting his work in part of a citywide survey: Graphic Design in L.A.

Chiu’s current work focuses on infusing his electronic music compositions with an organic—or human as he puts it—touch through live-processed performances, field recordings, and chance programming operations. While the result of this process varies by project, morphing to accommodate myriad contexts and collaborators, his sound is distinctly his own: a mindful blend of a keen and improvisational sense of arrangement and a near-preternatural ability to conjure fresh webs of sound from his modular setup.

Joe Berry is a multi-instrumentalist and a member of the wildly successful French electronic music project known as M83. When Joe is not touring the world, his work is a compelling coalescence of creative titles including composer, producer, educator, accompanist and puppeteer. In other words, Joe is adventurous — just like his music.

Joe holds a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies with emphasis in both Saxophone Performance and Composition and earned his Masters of Music in Jazz and Improvisational Music. His education is just about the only traditional aspect of his curriculum vitae, though. You might recognize him from a Michel Gondry-directed Chobani yogurt commercial next to composer Jon Brion, or on MTV as a dancing saxophonist in Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off video. Joe was also a member Save Ferris and Wayne Kramer’s free jazz experimental Lexington Arts Ensemble group, and is Vice President of artist development for the Joe Zawinul Foundation For Achievement.
