Holy Sun Opera House / Cruel Diagonals

Get ready for a night of dark, transcendent beauty as we welcome back Holy Sun Opera House and Cruel Diagonals for Damaged Disco on Thursday July 31 at Gold-Diggers! We are excited to team up these two unique artists for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening of music.

Holy Sun Opera House is classically trained soprano and drummer Krissy Barker (Object as Subject) and composer dl Salo (A Story of Rats, Saint Genet). Together they weave symphonic synths and operatic vocals with heavy drums into music that evokes joy, terror, anger, love, and grief in a dreamlike fashion. Recent performances have featured the group joined by a full “Goth Choir” known as Voices of Radical Joy through Sorrow.

Surrealist sound sorcerer Cruel Diagonals (aka Megan Mitchell) has been creating critically acclaimed experimental electronic music and intriguing visuals Since 2016. Her debut album Disambiguation (Drawing Room) earned rave reviews in The Wire, Pitchfork, and NPR and led to mesmerizing, riveting performances at festivals such as Desert Daze and MUTEK.SF along with U.S. and European tours. Cruel Diagonals' sublime live performances combine a minimal gear setup and abstract visuals with an instinctual adventurousness that favors a fluidity of tones over the grid-like modes of much electronic music.

Special guest DJ Wes will set the mood with a mix of dark ambient, gothwave and deep trance beats.

Damaged Disco is a monthly event with live performances of minimal synth, darkwave and post-punk artists curated by the Damaged Disco label, happening on the last Thursday of each month at Gold-Diggers. Follow @damaged_disco for updates!
