Portland-based composer, musician, and record label founder Lizzy Ellison takes the stage with one of America’s most innovative choirs, a Grammy-nominated choral director (Ethan Chessin), and a trio of powerhouse rock musicians to perform the collaboratively created masterpiece ORIGINS.
Throughout the fall, Ellison attended choir classes and led writing workshops with the students whose prose became the raw material for ORIGINS. The final project revealed 16 shared themes that capture experiences like heartbreak, fear, and friendship and highlighting the commonality of students’ lives across different backgrounds.
This ambitious, large-scale collaboration is an intergenerational, intercultural conversation between teenagers and adults, between indie rock and Brazilian grooves, and between Portland and its small-town neighbors.
