2220 Arts and Black Editions Present a night with Norwegian musician and composer Bendik Giske and Los Angeles based creative technologist Matthew Mallinger & The Beyond the Flowered Gates Ensemble featuring takoda (guitar & electronics), Nicolas Maldonado (saxophone), Topu Lyo (cello) & Matthew Mallinger (drums, percussion & samples).
Bendik Giske is renowned for his avant-garde approach to the saxophone and his unique blending of music, movement, and conceptual art. He is an artist and saxophonist whose expressive use of physicality, vulnerability and endurance have won him much critical acclaim.
With his live performances drawing from the repertoire of material found on his three albums to date for the Smalltown Supersound label, Giske draws his audience into an arresting display of musicality, bodily stamina and rich, unfettered humanity. Every element - be it microphone placement, light arrangement or creative sound design - is carefully considered for maximum resonance.
Born in Oslo, Norway, Giske developed a passion for music at an early age. His early years were shaped by exposure to jazz, electronic music, and traditional Scandinavian and Balinese sounds, an eclectic foundation that paved the way for his experimental and genre-defying career.
Matthew Mallinger & The Beyond the Flowered Gates Ensemble - Matthew Mallinger is a Creative Technologist based in Los Angeles, who recently released the collaborative record 'Beyond the Flowered Gates.' Beyond the Flowered Gates lies between experimental & jazz worlds, leaning into lush ambient soundscapes throughout. The album features takoda, Nicolas Maldonado, David Moses, V Ontiveros, Isiah Harwood, 40Hands, Javier Santiago, souschef & a remix track by Carlos Niño.
