Ann Magnuson presents Club 57 Society Reunion

Ann Magnuson and The Club 57 Society return to Zebulon on September 1, 2024 with a FREE “Glam Rock Homecoming Prom” REUNION dance party featuring original Club 57 member and legendary songwriter Kristian Hoffman as guest DJ spinning vintage glam rock vinyl that inspired a generation of punk rock and New Wave hipsters!

Dress Code: New York Dolls, T. Rex, Ziggy Stardust, Jobriath, Platform shoes, Hot pants, Velvet Goldmine, David Bowie, BIBA department store glamour, Eno in his feathers, Amanda Lear, early 1970s Groupie Chic or any damn crazy outfit you got! Don’t forget your handful of ‘Ludes!

After two triumphant Club 57 Society events co-hosted with The Broad Museum in 2023 (to coincide with their Keith Haring exhibit), Ann Magnuson returns as emcee and hostess to present an evening of OG frivolity with a focus on glitter glam-rock outrageousness.

With special Glam Rock Star Guest of Honor, the legendary Michael Des Barres!

The evening starts with vinyl rarities from Kristian Hoffman’s personal record collection to go along with an epic slide show of photographs by Dusti Cunningham (showing off both performers and audience from last year’s Black & White Ball and Psychedelic Happening extravaganzas.)

Then Ann Magnuson takes the stage as emcee to interview rock legend Michael Des Barres about his new album of early 70s classic covers and discuss the enduring influence of glam rock (including how it morphed into punk rock!) Ann will also introduce rare vintage videos from the glory days of Club 57 (including rare footage of the infamous Lady Wrestling Night) and other historic events documented by original club members Kenny Scharf, Barry Shils and Alexa Hunter!

PLUS original Club 57 member, Mudd Club regular and Hip-Hop pioneer impresario Michael Holman will be on hand to exhibit and discuss his “anti-commericals” (recently aired during SNL) using vintage footage of his friends (and fellow Gray bandmates) Jean-Michel Basquiat and Vincent Gallo!

ALSO: a special NEW world premiere VIDEO by Ann Magnuson and Adam Dugas featuring a surreal dream visitation by David Bowie!

Yes this IS a Prom and YES, a Homecoming Queen and King WILL be crowned PLUS there will be fabulous prizes for best costumes!

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!!! There will be lots of NEW MERCH available including

T-shirts and the brand new 2025 Club 57 collage calendar featuring original Club 57 member Keith Haring on the cover!

It’s an early evening of rock ‘n roll fun starting at 6 pm and ending at 9;30 (when another Zebulon dance party begins.)

Weekly

Michael Holman attempts to revolutionize television itself by turning the tables on and subverting the entire advertising paradigm. Holman has made 15 and 30 second “anti-ads,” shot on Super 8 film, that sell nothing and exist only as artistically pleasing and/or aesthetically challenging entertainment. The films showing at Zebulon are: “Vincent Gallo As Flying Christ,”"Pesceador© featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat” and”Gray Anti-Ad for Last Of The Beats" Says Holman: Why didn’t Warhol think of it? Marshall McLuhan once said: “Advertising is the greatest art form of the 20th Century.” Well, perhaps the occasional advertising in the 21st Century will be art itself.
